Why did I get Klinger's Mom a birthday gift when it wasn't her birthday?

Why did I get Klinger's mom a birthday gift over the weekend?

Now that's a good question.

See, I was invited several weeks ago to a lil' dinner party with a Klinger, and his wife, Alysse, which they were hosting at their place. Klinger's mom, Jan Klinger, was in town visiting from Atlanta, and since we got to know each other at Klinger's wedding in Italy, I blocked out the day and made it a point to be there to be a part of that evening.

Now, somewhere along the way, I got my wires crossed and the idea got into my head that she was in town for her birthday.

It wasn't her birthday.

I went and got her a card, and a little gift. Rolled over to the house and walked in... saw Jan and handed her the gift, gave her a hug and a quick peck on the cheek. She took it with a smile... and went back to conversing with friends and family...

I looked around and noticed that there weren't any birthday decorations - which is cool, you know, because some people don't do birthday parties like that. I also noticed that there weren't any gifts... nor was there any sort of cake or whatnot. I dismissed the thought... figuring that maybe they were in the refrigerator or whatnot...

As the wine flowed and the evening progressed, a mutual friend shared with me that it wasn't Jan's birthday... and then, Jan shared with me that her birthday... was in February...

... to which I said, "Happy Birthday anyway.... can you hand me that bottle of wine?"

I poured another glass as we laughed the moment off... and as I lifted that glass to my lips, I thought to myself, "TobyTime strikes again..."

Even when I don't try to be late... Even when I do everything I can to be ahead of the game... #TobyTime... happens.

This, friends, is my life.

Cheers!

Oh, and Happy Birthday, Jan Klinger... YOU are a great woman... and you've got a pretty good son in that Klinger kid, too...

#LoveToby
