#LIFE: So I shipped a FIRE PIT to my family's home for vacation...

Hi, My parents named me Toby. I just went home to Corpus Christi, Texas for about a week on vacation...

... and I shipped a fire pit to my family home.

That's right. A fire pit. Specifically, a SOLO STOVE BONFIRE.

Now, before I go any further, this isn't a paid promotional announcement. I paid good money for this SOLO STOVE and I paid good money to have it shipped to my family home in Corpus. There's been no promotional consideration provided, nor did I get any goods or services for what I'm posting...

.... but I love this fire pit. More than love it. It's a game changing, life-altering sort of thing which I adore and which I can't imagine my life without.

Let me explain...

At my family home, as a kid, growing up, my grandparents, Meme and Papa, and my parents... and the other "grown-ups" in our family, aka my aunt and whomever... would sit around the table in the breakfast area and talk about stuff. Life. Work. The kids. It was the place where the grown-up discussions happened that we as kids didn't really understand or need to be a part of. A few years back, when on a solo trip to Texas, I went home to Corpus and had a very deep life-changing talk which lead to a great many changes I made in my personal life, with relationships and self. That table... was a "thing..."

Now, I didn't intend for this fire pit to replace the "table" at my family's home... I really wanted a place to hang by the pool, outside in the cool of the Texas Summertime at night, which isn't really cool, but when coupled with the pool at the house, well, it would create a great place for us to kick it... to make S'MORES and cook hot dogs from H-E-B, which is the Texas version of Wegman's, if you will... and to just hang.

But what happened instead was pretty magical.

Almost every night, my dad, my mom, Kyla, my daughter and I hung outside by the fire pit. Sometimes just my dad and I. A couple of times, after they went in, I watched the embers fade under the stars as my mind contemplated life and things...

Around the fire, we talked. About life. Dad shared with me thoughts about living life and enjoying the fruits of a life spent working. Mom shared with me her thoughts about staying healthy, and losing the rest of the weight I need to lose. Kyla made S'MORES but doesn't eat hot dogs, but she hung out anyway. All of a sudden, the breakfast table in the house moved to the grotto by the pool around the fire pit.

It became the place for moments. It became the place where dad and I made a few memories... trying to figure out what to use as kindling to start the fire on a couple of occasions... only to have my mom save us... with something called cheesecloth and lint from the dryer, which, trust me, is really flammable.

It became a catalyst for some moments which have seared themselves into my soul... and I hope a new place for future conversations about stuff, love, family, faith... you know life.

What I thought of doing on a whim, which was inspired by a link sent to me by a longtime friend during a work-related meeting... became one of the best things I've ever purchased. Spontaneous. Unplanned. Perfect.

There's something about a firepit... and seated around some firepits, I've had some of the most insightful, telling and life-changing moments... so this Summer, if you get the chance... gather with friends, family or loved ones... around one. Hopefully, if you are as lucky as I was... and am... it will move you.

Thanks for reading.
