#ReadThisFIRST: Welcome to a new day! Here's what is up!

Well.... YO!

That was so Philly of me. #Flashback.

Welcome to a new day... I'm writing you and it's currently 69 degrees in my house. I'll accept that as a subtle win in the war of the thermostat. The compromise last night? Well, I turned the entire HVAC system OFF before bed. So there was neither HEAT nor COOL AIR which could be blown through the house. The only thing keeping us warm was the fact that we're on the ground floor, which means we're cooled by the outside while being warmed by those around us.

Little wins. At least for last night.

The one thing that is weird... I'm waking up this morning to the smell of some sort of, ahem, herb... and no one was doing any baking.

It's not coming from our place... but it's definitely some sort of herb. You know the kind... that one which makes one feel better if chronically ill?

Now I want waffles.

Here... watch this kid laughing as dad opens a letter... and remember... it really is the little things...

Thanks for choosing to #ReadThisFIRST today as we get the day started! Welcome to a new day... and let's try to remember it's about the little wins, you know? The subtle ones which make everything possible.

#TobyThought for the Day:

When a mentor visits... listen and learn. A mentor never stops being a mentor if you live a life in which you never stop learning.

Let's jump in...

Today is National PIE DAY... which pie would you chow down on right now if a pie were what you were really craving? Think about this... and then, maybe get one and enjoy it today!

Anne Hathaway revealed on Ellen yesterday that she has given up alcohol … for 18 years. Basically she made the decision to abstain from alcohol while her son, Jonathan, who is 2, is living in her home. "I'm going to stop drinking while my son is living in my house, just because I don't totally love the way I do it and he's getting to an age where he really does need me all the time in the morning," she said. And it seems a hangover on a school run may have prompted the decision. "I did one school run one day where I dropped him off at school. I wasn't driving, but I was hung over and that was enough for me," she explained. "I didn't love that one." (Today

Some like it hot … Do you like spicy food? Chances are you have a pretty spicy love life as well. A new survey found that respondents who listed their spice preference as "hot" had almost twice the amount of sex (5.3 times per month vs. 3.2 times per month) as those who said they don’t like any spice on their food. And spicy food lovers tend to be more adventurous overall than bland food fans. According to the survey, hot and spicy food lovers were more likely to say they love roller coasters, listen to loud music, and drive fast down a winding road. Spicy food lovers were also 45 percent more likely to have traveled out of the country, and more likely to have also gone skydiving, river rafting, and scuba diving. Spicy food lovers were even six times more likely to have gone bungee jumping than those who don’t like any spice. (SWNS

Exercise snacking … Don’t have time to exercise? According to a new study, it’s easy to fit in some short “exercise snacks” during the day. Researchers found that getting short periods of exercise a few times throughout the day goes a long way toward improving your heart health. There’s no need to run a marathon. Instead, all you have to do to fit “exercise snacks” into your day is take the stairs instead of the elevator when you can -- or take a brisk walk for a few minutes here and there. (Bustle

LAWSUIT FILED OVER NO-CALL DURING NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Sports fans are still buzzing about how badly the referees botched the ending of the Rams-Saints game on Sunday, which is sending the Rams to the Super Bowl.

One lawyer in New Orleans is so upset that he filed a lawsuit to get NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to step in and order a “do-over,” which -- according to an official league rule -- is within his powers.

Even if Goodell does not intervene, a Louisiana state-court judge could force the NFL to answer some questions about what happened on Sunday -- and why there won’t be another game between the Rams and Saints.

Which, would be a blast to see as well. (WDSU-TV)

EATING RIGHT BEFORE BED MIGHT NOT BE BAD FOR YOU

According to a new study, that midnight snack might not be that bad for you after all.

Researchers in Japan found that the time of your last meal doesn’t mess with your blood sugar levels as much as health officials believed.

Instead, it’s the usual suspects that are wrecking your health -- blood pressure, lack of physical activity and excessive drinking. (Insider)

COLLEGE KIDS ARE DITCHING BEER AND CHUGGING HARD SELTZER

While plenty of college students are still drinking beer at parties, more and more of them are choosing alcoholic sparkling water -- or hard seltzer -- instead.

Some are reaching for the stuff because it’s a new cool thing to do, while others are doing it because they think it’s a healthier choice. (Mel Magazine)

DUDE LOSES IT WHEN WIFE TOUCHES HIS TOYS!

A Wisconsin man was upset that his wife touched his action figure collection, so he grabbed an ax and went all "Hulk smash" around the house.

The 34-year-old told police that he may have overreacted a little bit when his wife touched his toys. He also admitted to being a little drunk. So Paul Bunyan grabbed an ax and started chopping. He smashed a TV, a laptop, a TV stand and some other items inside the house. Then, he went outside and started chopping up the car. He hacked off both side-view mirrors and then swung the ax right into the windshield.

When he was all done, his wife didn't even have to call police, because the guy called 911 on himself. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. He also caused about $5,000 in damages to his own stuff. (WKOW-TV)

LOOK OUT FOR THE STEALTH SPEED CAMERAS YOU GUYS!!!

Should different municipalities be able to hide speed cameras like this on major roads? It almost seems like entrapment... but then again, we shouldn't be speeding... right?

While on the subject of cops and crime... should cops be able to pull over and fine parents whom they see smoking in the car with kids present?

Give me a few for some more... I've gotta jump in the shower... where it's 70 degrees, easy! :-)
