'AGT' Champion Grace VanderWaal Returns For 'Moonlight' Performance

Reigning “America’s Got Talent” winner Grace VanderWaal made a big return to the show on Wednesday. Watch the video below!

As Gossip Cop has reported, VanderWaal was the season 11 frontrunner from the moment her audition aired at the end of the second episode of 2016. Then 12 years old, she amazed the judges by performing an original song called “You Don’t Know My Name.” Howie Mandel was so impressed, he pushed the Golden Buzzer to send the tween directly to the live shows. In addition to becoming a viral sensation, VanderWaal continued to excel as the NBC competition went on.

For the quarterfinals, semifinals and, of course, the finals, she continued to sing songs she penned herself. Those tracks, “Beautiful Thing,” “Light The Sky” and “Clay,” also won over the judges and viewers, and it was prety obvious that, despite other talented contestants, she had this season in the bag. Sure enough, on the finale last September, VanderWaal was named the winner, scoring the whopping $1 million prize. She then embarked on a media tour that included appearances on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Tonight Show,” “Today” show and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. VanderWaal also took part in the first-ever “America’s Got Talent” holiday special, which aired in December.

That same month, after signing with Columbia Records, VanderWaal released an EP called Perfectly Imperfect. In addition to featuring all the songs she sang on “AGT,” the music collection also included two other original songs, “Gossip Girl” and “Missing You.” Impressively, the record debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200. The singer has spent much of 2017 working on her first full-length album, and released the single “Moonlight” in June. On Tuesday, two days after winning Next Big Thing at the Teen Choice Awards, VanderWaal revealed she’d sing that track for her “America’s Got Talent” homecoming.

She tweeted, “It’s almost the big day!! I’ll be performing #Moonlight during @AGT’s live shows tomorrow night at 8/7c on @nbc.” And earlier Wednesday, the 13-year-old shared that she was “so excited to be back here at @AGT.” VanderWaal will be hitting the road this fall and again next February for her “Just The Beginning Tour.” Expect at least one ukuele on stage and “Moonlight” on the set list.
